In a calm, supportive environment, participants build confidence, connection, and real-life skills — all while enjoying time outdoors, engaging with others, and unwinding after the school day.

With inclusive, Auslan-supported communication and a team that truly understands, every child is supported to feel safe, included, and ready to thrive.

What do we focus on?

At Atypical, every day is shaped by our Core Circle philosophy — a holistic approach that supports each person to grow through connection, purpose, and real-life experiences.

In a calm, low-pressure environment, participants are supported to build independence, communication, capacity, and emotional wellbeing in a way that feels natural and meaningful to them.

Our programs are inclusive, Auslan-friendly, and tailored to each individual. With personalised goals and a supportive team, participants are encouraged to explore their interests, build confidence, and develop skills that carry into everyday life.

Each day offers a range of experiences, guided by our Core Circle focus areas. Participants choose how they engage — at their own pace, in their own way, with genuine support throughout.

These experiences may include:

Animal Care & Interaction
Feeding, enrichment, and daily routines — building responsibility, confidence, and connection.

Horticulture & Outdoor Projects
Hands-on learning through gardening, farm maintenance, and practical tasks like building, fixing, and caring for the land.

Cooking & Entrepreneurial Programs
From garden-to-plate cooking to markets, creative projects, and community initiatives — developing independence and real-world skills.

Communication & Capacity Building
Supporting communication in all forms, including Auslan and alternative methods, while building confidence, decision-making, and everyday independence.

Wellbeing Supports
Supporting emotional regulation, mental health, and self-awareness through connection, movement, and guided activities.

Everything we do is designed to feel purposeful, flexible, and genuinely supportive — creating space for each person to learn, grow, and be part of something meaningful.

Animal Feeding and Engagement

We start the day with our animals and hands-on farm routines — feeding animals, collecting eggs, and settling into the space.

Activity Block 1

Hands-on activities guided by participant goals — including gardening, arts and crafts, communication activities, and nature-based experiences.

Flexible, engaging, and tailored to the group each day.

Lunch: From Garden to Plate

Lunch is a relaxed, social part of the day. Some days we cook together using fresh produce from the garden, and other days participants bring their own meals to enjoy together.

It’s a great opportunity to build independence, connection, and everyday life skills — while naturally incorporating our cooking program.

Activity Block 2

After lunch, we dive into our second activity block for the day. Afternoons are all about purpose and participation. From building and fixing around the farm, to creating products for market, caring for animals, or getting involved in sustainability projects — participants are part of something real. Whether it’s hands-on work, creative expression, or movement-based activities, this session supports confidence, independence, and a genuine sense of achievement.

Mindfulness & Wind Down

To round out the day, we come together for mindfulness, reflection, and quiet connection. Whether through journaling, discussion, music, movement, or guided breathing, this time helps participants process the day, celebrate their achievements, and reset for tomorrow.

Why It Works

Our programs work because they’re built on more than just activities — they’re built on genuine connection, trust, and experience.

At Atypical, we take the time to truly get to know each person. Our team builds strong, consistent relationships, creating a space where participants feel safe, understood, and supported to be themselves.

We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. With real experience supporting individuals with behaviours of concern and complex communication needs, our programs are designed to meet people where they’re at — and support them to grow from there.

This is what allows everything else to fall into place.

Through our farm-based experiences, participants are supported to:

✔ Build independence, confidence, and routine
✔ Develop real-life skills through meaningful, hands-on tasks
✔ Strengthen communication in all forms, including Auslan and AAC
✔ Make choices and actively shape their own experience
✔ Feel a genuine sense of connection, belonging, and purpose
