Here’s how a typical day might unfold:

daily fam program from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Empowering choice. Building skills. Creating connection.

At Atypical Farm, each day is guided by the people who make it... our participants. With a flexible structure, hands-on experiences, and a strong connection to nature, every activity is designed to support NDIS goals, promote inclusion, and build meaningful life skills.

10:00 AM – Arrival & Animal Routines

We begin the day by checking in and heading out to care for our beloved animals; feeding, grooming, and spending time with horses, cows, goats, chickens, cats, and birds. These tasks build routine, empathy, and responsibility, and offer a calm start to the day.

10:45 AM – Morning Tea & Social Connection

After morning jobs, we gather for morning tea. It’s a time to connect with others, play a board game, or just relax. This informal social time helps develop communication skills, confidence, and friendships in a welcoming, inclusive space.

11:15 AM – Daily Activity Block 1

This session is shaped by our current term theme and participant goals. It might involve:

  • Horticulture in the veggie garden or rose beds
  • Auslan-based communication games
  • Sensory activities
  • Building or creative projects
  • Nature walks or orienteering
  • Photography

Activities are purposeful, but always flexible and adjusted to suit the energy, interests and needs of the group.

12:30 PM – Lunch: From Garden to Plate

Lunch is prepared and shared by participants and staff using fresh produce from the garden where possible. Cooking together promotes daily living skills such as meal planning, food prep, hygiene, nutrition, and teamwork! All while enjoying the reward of a shared meal.

1:15 PM – Daily Activity Block 2

After lunch, we dive into our second experience for the day, which may include:

  • Farm maintenance (fixing fences, tinkering with tools, building)
  • Crafting goods for market (creative enterprise)
  • Music or movement sessions
  • Egg collection and packaging for sale
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Sustainability projects like cash-for-cans, worm farm / composting

These activities help participants build work readiness, creativity, and hands-on skills in a real-world farm setting.

2:30 PM – Mindfulness & Wind Down

To round out the day, we come together for mindfulness, reflection, and quiet connection. Whether through journaling, discussion, movement, or guided breathing, this time helps participants process the day, acknowledge their efforts, and reset for tomorrow.
