Our inclusive programs incorporate all the fundamentals of our Farm Based Group Program in a condensed format, with afterschool snacks provided. Additionally, we offer Auslan support and other disability support services to ensure every child can participate fully while at the Atypical Homestead.
This session is shaped by our current term theme and participant goals, emphasizing inclusive programs that cater to various needs. It might involve: Horticulture in the veggie garden or rose beds, Auslan support through communication games, sensory activities, building or creative projects, nature walks or orienteering, and photography. Activities are purposeful and designed to provide disability support services, but always flexible and adjusted to suit the energy, interests, and needs of the group.
Lunch is prepared and shared by participants and staff using fresh produce from the garden where possible. Cooking together as part of our inclusive programs promotes daily living skills such as meal planning, food prep, hygiene, nutrition, and teamwork! This experience is further enhanced by Auslan support, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the reward of a shared meal while benefiting from our disability support services.
After lunch, we dive into our second experience for the day, which may include: Homestead maintenance (fixing fences, tinkering with tools, building), crafting goods for market (creative enterprise), music or movement sessions, egg collection and packaging for sale, arts and crafts, and sustainability projects like cash-for-cans, worm farm/composting. With Auslan support available, these inclusive programs offer valuable disability support services that help participants build work readiness, creativity, and hands-on skills in a real-world farm setting.
To round out the day, we come together for mindfulness, reflection, and quiet connection, supported by Auslan support and inclusive programs. Whether through journaling, discussion, movement, or guided breathing, this time helps participants in our disability support services process the day, acknowledge their efforts, and reset for tomorrow.
Atypical Homestead is an inclusive program focused on capacity-building and disability support services that: ✔️ Fosters independence, routine, and confidence ✔️ Embeds daily living and practical skills into real-life tasks ✔️ Supports communication, including Auslan support and AAC ✔️ Prioritises participant-led experiences and genuine choice ✔️ Builds community connection through nature, animals, and enterprise
